Stay Another Day

Stay Another Day — East 17’s Festive #1 Anthem

“Stay Another Day” is the song that turned East 17 into a household name. Released in November 1994 from the album Steam, the heartfelt ballad shot straight to #1 in the UK and stayed there for five weeks — finishing as the official Christmas Number One.

The Story Behind the Song

Written by Tony Mortimer, the track was inspired by personal loss and dedicated to his late brother. Sleigh bells, a children’s choir and Brian Harvey’s emotional lead vocal turned a personal song into one of the most-loved British pop singles of all time.

Legacy

Three decades later, “Stay Another Day” still returns to the UK Top 40 every December and remains a cornerstone of the East 17 live set. Whatever the city, the moment the white parkas come out and those opening bells hit, the audience sings every word back.
